Ryan McGinley: The Kids. Early Works, 2019

Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art will exhibit a selection of Ryan McGinley’s early work from 2 - 27 April, 2019, at our gallery space in Chelsea.

The exhibition will include pieces that were shown in McGinley’s breakout show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2003, as well as some of the photographs that were on display in 2004 in his follow-up show at MoMA-PS1. McGinley’s debut at the Whitney made him the youngest artist to have a solo exhibition at the museum, and with the subsequent show at MoMA-PS1 his reputation as “the most important photographer in America” was established.

Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art represented McGinley during the first five years of his career, that pivotal period encompassing those two shows at the Whitney and MoMA-PS1, but also including a 2001 exhibition in London entitled RAW: NEW YORK, NEW WORK, which included work by McGinley, along w other emerging young artists like Hanna Liden, John Arsenault, Kenneth Cappello, among others, and FRESH, in 2002, which showed McGinley’s photographs alongside work by Carlos Motta and others. Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art has also exhibited McGinley in 2004, and 2007. The gallery has the largest inventory of the artist’s early work and has continued to specialize in that period when we worked together with McGinley.

This new exhibition, RYAN MCGINLEY: THE KIDS. EARLY WORKS will include ten photographs, including some of his most important images, such as “Dash Bombing.”
