Stanislav Ginzburg: Tales From Vienna Woods, 2008

5 June - 12 July 2008

"Time and space do not exist. Upon an insignificant background of real life events, the imagination spins and weaves new patterns; a blend of memories, experiences, pure inventions, absurdities and improvisations."

-August Strindberg "A Dream Play"

Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art, New York is pleased to announce our new exhibition Stanislav Ginzburg: Tales from Vienna Woods. The show will run from 5 Jun through 15 July 2008. The gallery will host a reception for the artist on Thursday 5 June from 6-8 PM.

Stanislay Ginzburg: Tales from Vienna Woods presents a broad array of pictures, which underscores his interest in fiction and the subconscious mind, inspired by Murakami's novels, Bergman's films, and Scandinavian folk-tales. Such influences all find their way into his photography and reflect the process of his image making. Describing his work Stanislav writes, “In my images I try to forget where I am. They are my dreams, my adventures, which never happened in life.  They give me a chance, a moment, a reason. They happen because there can’t be any other way. It’s that simple.”  Ultimately, this ideology materializes through a dark and ominous exploration of a mythical forest, which serves as a playground for artist's imagination and solemn narrative vignettes.

Born and raised in Russia, Ginzburg immigrated to the US at the age of 15. He later received his BFA from Parsons School of Design. His photographs have been shown at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Deitch Projects, and the NY Studio Gallery. Tales from Vienna Woods, is comprised of a dozen large-scale colour photographs, and constitutes his inaugural solo exhibition with Peter Hay Halpert Fine Art. Stanislav currently resides in Brooklyn.
