Photography In New York: PUTTING ON A NEW HAT

Peter Hay Halpert has an additional moniker to add to
his already replete resume - Private Dealer. The author, curator and collector is opening a new venue on New York's Upper East Side, opposite Sotheby's. The space has fabulous light with a wrap around terrace and
panoramic views of the city from the 26th floor. According to Halpert, "the new space allows me to show a fair amount of work in a salon setting and enables people to take their time and get to understand the work." His initial focus will be on contemporary British artists. Halpert,
who started out buying works as a collector, says, "I enjoyed having a relationship with the artists and
became interested in helping them develop their careers." However, he adds, "it became clear that as a dealer, I could do more in actually placing the works in collections and museums."
